DICE & ADVENTURES

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In case you don't understand something about Dice & Adventures...

What do I need to play Dice & Adventures?

You need:

The DICE & ADVENTURES Basic Pack + 1 UNIVERSE of your choice.

There are 6 different Universes (FANTASY, NOUVEAU, PIRATAS, RETRO, SCI-FI & WESTERN). The game is structured this way to get you playing at a very low price, letting you choose where you want to start your adventures with us. Assembly materials, dice, pencils, etc. is on you...

Is Dice & Adventures easy to assemble?

Super easy! Anyone that knows how to cut with scissors and use regular glue stick can do it. Just follow the assembly instructions!

And check the Assembly Pro Tips for more!

Assembling the game is far better because you'll get a great product and that old school game feel, but it's not necessary to play… Just print some Character Sheets and access the rules digitally or print them on regular paper.

Can my D&A Character have an Ability stat of 1?

No. That would be boring! Abilities range from 2 to 11. Magic from 2 to 12.

What does the +1D12 on the advantages of Profiles mean?

The +1D12 on the advantages of Profiles means that when the Character performs an Ability check that has to do with that advantage, the Character adds 1 extra die to the dice the DM asks to roll.

E.g. If the DM asks for a 3D12 check, the Character rolls 4D12.

Do I have to roll the Energy modifier for every single die on the Ability check?

No. You roll once per Ability check and apply the same Energy modifier to every die on that Ability check.

E.g. Your Character is Tired and you perform an Ability check, getting 6, 8, 7. Then, roll to determine the Energy modifier for that check and get a 2… Transforming the 6, 8, 7 into 4, 6, 5.

Can my Character carry any object?

That’s for your DM to decide. There’s no hard rule because of the countless possibilities. In general, use common sense. Would it be possible for a super strong Character to carry a whole car on its back? In most cases, probably not… But who knows! Maybe your group has found clever ways to make it happen!

No armour or shield rules?

Nope! It’s a lot smoother this way and lets everyone dress & look like they want to, right from the beginning. The game assumes that Characters are able to cope with themselves, however particular they might be.

E.g. A knight in shiny armour is used to that shiny armour, so why would it affect his actions? In a particular situation where that knight uses something (Damp cloth?) to protect himself from, let’s say, a dragon’s fiery breath, the DM could grant an extra die for its amazing ingenuity!

You will soon discover other ways of becoming better and, if you really, really want it, the DM can always home-brew cool or magic armours and shields for you… Just remember, your Characters’ prowess doesn’t rely on a flimsy piece of tin!

Can another Character cure an unconscious one?

Yes! The DM has the last word, but if another Character manages to cure a friend in dire straights before it’s too late… Of course!

Why are there no rules for mapping or minis combat?

Dice & Adventures is a role-playing game, not a strategy game… Imagination is boss! However, it’s really useful to have a grid to map out combat or to explain difficult situations.

The grids provided can be used to draw battle maps and develop combat with minis, but also to create geographic location maps for your Players to choose where to go next or even for puzzles and in-game games! The general rules are enough to use grids for combat with minis or tokens, but don’t get too fixated on the details.

It’s much better for everyone to have a good time and enjoy a super cool adventure than to be 100% accurate on everything!

Can I use my 28mm minis?

Sure! But you will need to provide your own grid. Dice & Adventures is compact and portable. Our grids can be used with 15mm minis, but the more things you add (minis, terrain, etc.), the more things you’ll have to carry around with you. That’s why we recommend using coloured tokens (They are versatile and fit inside the box). That said, if you don’t care about space or portability… Go ahead! There are some amazing minis and terrain pieces out there!

Why are Menaces and Characters different?

The same way bad guys in video-games don’t use controller combinations to do stuff, they just do it by default, Menaces are simplified versions of Characters and game mechanics are built for Players to react to whatever is thrown at them, resulting in:

- Faster and easier on the spot world building, Menace creation and combat.

- Better cinematic moments without bad DM rolls ruining the scene.

- Harmful creatures (orcs), inanimate objects (boulders) or actions (falling) represented under one concept.

If you prefer a more traditional approach, and as long as everyone at the table is okay with it, you could flesh living Menaces as Characters: filling out Character Sheets, rolling for Abilities, Energy, Magic, etc. However, gameplay will be far more mechanic and less dynamic.

What’s your posture on violence in games?

In Browy Games, we believe there’s nothing more precious in this world than life, peace, freedom, and respect for each other. RPG’s can sometimes fall into darker themes, but violence should only be seen in a heroic “good vs evil” film-like approach and always within your imagination, never in real life. Make an effort to keep things light and fun for everyone to enjoy, reward Players who look for the most noble way around, help each other and always try to nurture your worlds with positive vibes.
